Milan's fare calendar is shaped less by weather and more by its own event schedule — Fashion Week and the Salone del Mobile design fair can spike demand (and prices) even during months that would otherwise be considered low season.
The cheapest months to fly
Late November through February, outside the Christmas and New Year stretch, tends to bring the softest fares into Milan, as general leisure demand drops off in the cold, foggy off-season. Late June through August also sees a dip, since many locals leave the city and overall tourist demand is lower than in the shoulder seasons. Watch out, though — Fashion Week (held twice a year, in February/March and again in September) can override normal seasonal pricing and push fares and hotel rates up sharply even when the calendar would otherwise suggest a quiet month.
How far ahead to book
2 to 4 months ahead works well for most of the year. If your dates land anywhere near Fashion Week or the Salone del Mobile design fair in April, book earlier — 4 to 6 months out — since both events draw international demand that fills flights and hotels well ahead of the actual dates.
A routing tip worth knowing
Milan is served by three airports — Malpensa (MXP) for long-haul and intercontinental routes, Linate (LIN) for short-haul European flights and the closest to the city center, and Bergamo (BGY), used mainly by budget carriers. It's worth comparing fares across all three rather than defaulting to one, since the price difference can be significant, especially if you're flexible about a longer transfer into the city.

- Milan Fashion Week (February/March and September) — exact dates shift yearly, but both editions reliably drive up hotel and flight demand across the city
- Salone del Mobile, Milan's design fair in April — one of the city's largest annual trade events, filling hotels and pushing fares higher
- Christmas and New Year's — a seasonal bump as European travelers use the holidays for city breaks
